We always talk about the difficulties of being tall women (i.e. the stares, the comments, too short clothes) but I think we sometimes forget about the good things. And I figured what better way to spend Stand Tall Week than thinking about all the great things about being tall.
1. Can never get lost in a crowd (unless it’s a crowd of tall people)
No worries about getting separated from friends in a crowd, being head and shoulders above the average person, you can easily spot me (from a block away).
2. Easily noticed and hard to forget
One thing about being tall, you leave an impression. This is especially helpful for job interviews or etc. I don’t have to do anything special to be remembered; other than be my usual tall self. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard, “Oh, yeah! You’re that tall girl” or overheard someone describing me as “the tall one”. This would be bad if I ever planned to become a spy or go on a crime spreeĀ (which I don’t). I would get caught in a second.
3. Being mistaken for a model
I’m always assumed to either be a basketball player or a model because of my height. The latter implies that I am at least somewhat attractive so that’s good.
4. Unique
Like I said in a previous post, less than 1% of U.S. females are 6’3″ are taller. I don’t know about you but I like being unique and different than everyone else. Being normal is overrated.
5. Easily reach things off high shelves
It must be really hard for short people not being able to reach things for themselves. Always having to ask someone for a boost or to get things for them. It gets weird when strangers ask me to get stuff for them, but I would much rather be one the getting things then have to ask random people to help me.
6. Can wear certain styles that short women can’t
This one I’ve heard often. Apparently, tall women can pull off certain clothing styles that short women can not. That’s good, I guess. Not sure what a tall woman can wear that a short women can’t. 37″ inseam jeans maybe?
7. Never have to worry about not being able to see behind someone.
I apologize to every short person who has ever had to sit behind me in a movie theater, classroom or even had to stand behind me in line. I’m sure you couldn’t see a thing from behind me. Luckily I don’t have to worry about that with my height. I see clearly above everyone.
These last three are actually backed up by actual scientific research. I didn’t make them up. Seriously. Here is a link to an article about it.
8. Tall people make more money
A 2004 study states that for every inch of height there is an increase of $789 a year. So theoretically, I will earn $7,101 more a year than someone who is 5’6″. That’s pretty awesome.
9. Tall people are perceived as leaders/ more confident
Since we literally look down on others we are automatically perceived as being authoritative and confident. It is because of this that we often take leadership positions. Another article I read brought up and interesting point: do tall people naturally have higher self esteem or is it only because of the way they are perceived?
10. Tall people are smarter.
A 2006 study stated that taller children performed higher on tests and as adults they are more likely to select higher-paying jobs that require greater intelligence, which leads to more money.
BONUS:
I just thought of one just as I was typing this up. Tall women are less likely to be mugged. Don’t know if this is true or not, but what criminal is going to be dumb enough to try to stick up a woman twice his size? I mean it makes sense…
So there you have my top ten (plus one) reasons why being tall is so awesome.
Continue to stand tall, Junoesque ladies!

I love that you made a conscious effort to focus on the positive. While sometimes it seems like we are griping, we really do know that we are lucky to be tall! I feel that way, and this is a perfect explanation as to why
Thanks! It can be challenging to be so tall sometimes, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!
