Elayna, where have you been?

Like I said in the latest Pinterest Picks I’ve been kinda MIA lately. So I thought I’d give a little update on my what’s been going on with me.

I’ve been sick. My sister got me sick. This has been happening since we were children. My sister always gets sick first then she gets me sick. So it’s been a couple of weeks of coughing and sneezing and I’ve lacked the energy or motivation to post. Luckily my cold is on it’s way out.

I did my own Marley twists. I installed them on July 14th and plan to take them out August 10th or when my roots get too fuzzy whichever comes first. I am very proud of them. They took me HOURS but I am definitely going to do them again. It’s a pretty easy style to maintain. I just oil my scalp with tea tree oil to minimize the itchy scalp and moisturize my hair with a leave-in/oil/water mix every day. Though I love my twists, I miss Audrey II. Now I know why I won’t be getting locs. I would get bored and want my fro back.

I used Jouelzy’s technique of twisting and it is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Guest post. About a month or so ago, I was asked by the lovely ladies at TrialsnTresses to do a guest post on their site about natural hair and how could I say no? I was asked a number of questions about my natural hair journey including how long did I transition, why did I decide to go natural and any advice I had for any new naturals. Hopefully I helped to encourage others to hang in there with their journeys. Below is the preview, clicking on it will lead you to the site.

Thanks again ladies for thinking of me!

Fighting off the advances of old height hound dudes. Example. I was walking to the Metro from work and this old man was taking his bike off the bike rack from the front of a bus. As I walk by, he calls to me and says something like, “How you doin’ with your beautiful self…” Keep in mind that this man has to be at least 65-70 years old. I don’t pay him much attention and keep walking. Next thing I know I hear him calling to me. He is following me on his bike. “I was serious y’know. Why don’t we go to dinner?” “I’m going home”, I say. “So you don’t have time to go get dinner?” he said. “I’m going home,” I said. “You won’t regret it!” he says as I laugh not believing the craziness of this conversation. “I’m not playing I’m serious,” he said. As I walk down the stairs into the train station he is still trying to get my attention. I think I am too polite for my own good. I just wanted to yell, “Dude! I am not interested. I am 24, old enough to be your grandchild. This is gross.” Oh to be tall and beautiful…lol

I started drawing again. Then I got sick and stopped but I am going to get back to it. I promise. This drawing is part of a series I am working on. Stay tuned for more.

Sorry it’s so dark. And I still have to make some minor tweaks before I color it.

That’s really it for now. That I can think of anyway. I hope to have more posts out soon.

Until next time,

Elayna
