Zenni Optical

I have mentioned on the blog once or twice before, my desire to find an alternative to going to a glasses store and spending all this money to get prescription frames. I have been mulling over trying Zenni Optical and about 2 weeks or so ago I finally took the plunge.

I ordered #286315 and #638821 (they don’t have names, just numbers.) These were just 2 of the thousands of frames Zenni Optical has. And that is just for Women. These also have separate categories for Men and Kids.

I have been wondering if I could pull off the “big-glasses-hipster-trend” and since these frames were pretty cheap (like the rest of Zenni’s frames) I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give it a go. I really was also drawn to the ombre effect on the top pair. Those were only $20 so I thought I could be adventurous and get the bottom ones too.

Every Zenni order comes with an eyeglass cloth and eyeglass case and the lenses come with anti scratch coating, and UV protection. Something that I just noticed as I am writing this, you also get free shipping on your second and consecutive pairs.

On these frames, I got the recommended 1.57″ single vision lens with anti reflective coating at $4.95 for each pair. I ended up paying a little over $60 for BOTH pairs of glasses and that includes shipping. Great price if I do say so myself.

And the best part: they arrived at my house less than a week after I first ordered them. Needless to say, I was very surprised and impressed.

Now back to the frames themselves. Overall I do like them. I just have to get over how big they are. I don’t like how they make my eyes look so small, or how they accentuate the bags under my eyes. I could be, as usual, too critical of myself and overanalyzing things.

I even used the Virtual Try-On feature that Zenni Optical has before I ordered them, but I guess I didn’t connect how that would look in real life. Zenni Optical also lists the exact measurements of each component of the frame down to the width of the bridge, but I never compared that to my current glasses. I know, I know I said I wanted to try the “big glasses” so why am I surprised that they are big? Like my friend said, I just have to get used to it.

Me in each frame. This is my “unsure” face. Via my Instagram.

I think the ones on the left are my favorite out of the two because they are slightly smaller and they are different than every frame I have ever had. I’ve worn black frames for the last 10 years so it is refreshing to try something different.

I will definitely be trying Zenni Optical again though I am going to exercise restraint so I don’t end up with 30 different pairs of glasses. With these prices, eyeglasses would be another fashion accessory for me. I really don’t need more stuff to buy.

What do you think about my new frames? Are you tired of glasses shopping in-store too? Comment below.
