OMG You’re so tall!

I’m tall not deaf or blind. I can see you staring and can hear your exclamations of how tall I am to your little group of cronies over there. I’m not sure if they don’t think I can hear them or they just don’t care? Oh, I get it! They must think that because they are lower to the ground that my ears don’t pick up the frequency. Oh and the stares! You know that feeling you get when someone’s watching you? I think tall women are definitely more attuned to that sense because we are stared at wherever we go. The plain, boldface, checking to see if i’ll grow another head staring. Um, can I help you? One of these days when I catch someone staring I’m gonna turn and make the ugliest face ever. I will give myself extra cool points if they scream.

Then there are those who are “brave” enough to come up to me and exclaim how tall I am. “OMG, You’re so tall!” OMG! Am I? When did that happen?! And then there is the #1 question. We’ve all heard it at least 50 times. Come on, say it with me: “How tall are you?” I wonder sometimes why they need to know how tall I am. What, are you going to buy me clothes or something? Why are short people so curious? Curiosity killed the cat, y’know. I’m just saying.

  1. It has always struck me as strange that to ask “how tall are you?” is considered socially acceptable, but to ask “how short are you” in return is the height of rudeness.

  2. I was like 13 and said to someone at a restaurant (a plus sized someone) “how much do you weigh?” after being asked “how tall are you…oh that must be why your so skinny”? Yeah… I got in big trouble with my mom for that. WTF….lol Yesterday was at the store heard some kid behind me in line “mom…mom…that lady’s sooooo tall” don’t know if I should take it as a compliment or a not. Great blog btw.

  3. Haha, I love this line:

What, are you going to buy me clothes or something?

I am so going to use it the next time I am asked… although it’s been awhile since I’ve been approached by random strangers on the street. And for the record, I too am on the tall side… 6’3″… and yes, I do wear heels 🙂 I love my height… if you got it, you better flaunt it!
